For the ones I could find on Ebay, some were labled as 95w coolers (for i5s and i7s) whilst some were not.HP and Compaq Desktop PCs - Motherboard Specifications, H-Joshua-H61-uATX (Joshua) I honestly do not know whether HP used the exact same cooler on their i3 and i5/7 models. It appears that someone with a similar system on the HP forums found this out as well (look at post 7 on the below link) It is these 3 screws on the socket also attach the backplate on the HP motherboard. I've linked a picture below to point out which screws I mean. you know why or you think just by looking at the pictures? Looking at the backplate, the only screws attatching the backplate happen to be same screws that attach most of the CPU socket to the motherboard. Sucks that i cant take the backplate off. any idea on how id be able to figure out if my current one is usable for the i5? imn ot certain but i think it may be th ebets move just to buy the new one since this ones over 4 years old anyway. well i guess thats alright as long as i get a fan that works. Originally posted by Patrick World-Star:hm. That said, your current cooler may be able to handle an i5 or i7 already, it all boils down to whether HP used different sized coolers on the i3 and i5/i7 models. The good news is, you can buy HP 95w coolers for i5s and i7s on ebay. It would make sense for a backplate to be there else there wouldn't be anything for the CPU cooler to screw into.Īfter just looking online, due to the way the backplate is attached to the motherboard, you may not be able to swap out your CPU cooler at all.
In that picture you sent, is that a new motherboard or was that backplate put on by hp? cuz the mobo might just come like that but idk I just googled HP H61 joshua, the image was among the results, most of which were the same motherboard.
i dont remmeber if it came with the backplate already on it, but if it didnt then wehave a problem becaus eit had the screw holes already. My issue is that a while abck i bought a new motherboard. so yeah it wouldve been a tight fit ill probly use your fan. i measured my legth from motherboard to top of case while opened and it was just under 150mm.
